In her 25 years of experience in women’s health, Geri has never stopped learning from her patients. “One patient told me something that I always remember,” she says. “It was that she wanted to know that she was not alone in this journey. That’s what I want each patient to know. We are here for you.”
Geri was inspired by the nursing profession when she was a child. When she was in elementary school her mother underwent surgery and Geri saw the nobility of the nurses who cared for her. Geri has spent her entire nursing career in women’s health and volunteers for breast cancer awareness, having lost her mother to that disease.
Before joining WINFertility, Geri was the IVF nurse coordinator for John J. Stangel, MD, a reproductive endocrinologist, now with RMA of New York and earlier was an IVF nurse at the Candlewood Center for Women’s Health in Danbury, CT, the Fertility and Hormone Center at Montefiore Medical Center in Dobbs Ferry, NY, and the IVF America program at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY. She holds a BS in nursing from the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
“At the time I came into this field, the technology had just recently come to the US,” Geri says. “I was excited to be a part of this opportunity to help people achieve their dream of having a baby.” In her years as an IVF nurse she was especially moved by a couple who underwent IVF as the husband was having chemotherapy for cancer. There were problems with embryo quality and they underwent multiple cycles. They desperately wanted a baby and agreed to use preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) to help ensure the embryo was healthy prior to transfer. Geri was involved “every step of the way,” she says, and she was thrilled when they eventually had a baby.
Geri is enthusiastic about the work she does at WINFertility as a FertilityCoachSM Nurse. “This company’s whole philosophy is to help every patient have the best chance at success with their infertility treatment. So I feel good about the work we do each day.
”All of the infertility nurses here at WIN have worked in infertility and women’s health practices, so we all know what patients go through. That has given us the sensitivity and knowledge to know what patients need to help them through this process.”
As an infertility nurse Geri empathizes with the patients and what they are willing to endure physically, emotionally and financially to have a baby. “The rigorous testing, multiple daily injections, and daily monitoring they go through gave me a great respect for patients and a desire to be there to help them,” she says.
Geri values the simple things in life, like “making the most of each day with family, friends, and patients.” She is a passionate runner and a big advocate of working out and staying healthy. She never misses going to the gym and encourages everyone else to work at keeping healthy as well. Geri grew up in Yonkers, NY and likes to do fun things with her family as well as the usual weekend errands.
